Editor, Daily News:

I am concerned about the facts of your editorial on the proposed Golden Gate Boulevard and Wilson Boulevard shopping center.

Your editorial questions the need for a shopping center the size of the proposed project, when there is already approval for a similar project four miles away. You conveniently omit the fact that the project you mention is not yet developer-owned and in fact is still pending a land acquisition commitment of $20 million.

You also make reference that the Golden Gate and Wilson boulevards shopping center needed public input and a review of the master plan, while not mentioning this requirement for the proposed project at Randall Boulevard during review by the county.

Note that traffic flow to eastern Golden Gate Estates has two main arteries, Golden Gate Boulevard and Immokalee Road. Both of these are heavily traveled by different citizens from different areas of Collier County. It is not fair to corral the Golden Gate Boulevard-access residents to Immokalee Road for their shopping needs, when a more convenient solution is at hand at Wilson and Golden Gate boulevards.

Seems to me the master plan is outdated and inadequate to meet the current lifestyles we deserve in the Estates area. Why should we be incurring the additional fuel and time expense to support shopping away from our convenient travel routes? I have already voted “yes” for this project and encourage my fellow citizens to support this much-needed development.
