Editor, Daily News:

The Daily News has really missed the mark in its editorial regarding the shopping center proposed at the northwest corner of Golden Gate and Wilson boulevards.

The editorial questions whether the project, much larger than the comprehensive plan would routinely allow, is really worth setting such a precedent.

This project would not set any precedent. Any developer of any future commercial development would have to go through the same lengthy comprehensive-plan amendment process as this developer. Approving this specific shopping center does not open the door for further commercial development, as opponents argue.

I have attended the numerous community meetings and public hearings concerning this project and believe the developer has done an excellent job of meeting the needs of Golden Gate Estates residents.

Our community has been lacking such services for far too long, and I will be voting “yes” on the Golden Gate Estates shopping center issue so that it can become a reality.
